How much money should I bring to India with me?

I'm thinking about taking a trip to Goa or Mumbai for a week at the end of August. I would be traveling alone so I wouldn't be overly fussed about where I stayed and would plan to do some light shopping (souvenirs, etc.), but more for just seeing the city and culture. Any suggestions or recommendations would be very helpful- thank you!
